Mindful or Mind full?

I was exploring ways in how to be mindful with a group this week and I was reminded that practicing mindfulness really is helpful! It allows me the time to bring my full attention to the present moment. While teaching this group, I noticed sounds and colours around me that I never did before! We literally stood still, to be in the moment.

Mindfulness helps me come into the present. It helps me to slow down and to be aware of my breath and heartbeat when I feel stressed or overwhelmed. It reminds me of the difference between having my mind full of thoughts and worries and actually being mindful, where I live in the present moment and be fully accepting of myself. This can be challenging! To be non judgemental of our thoughts and take ourselves as we truly are takes practice! However, it can be a powerful tool to help us let go of expectations and pressures that can weigh us down. This in my opinion, is the practice of self compassion and minding ourselves.

Mindfulness doesn’t have to be demanding of our time or a big deal! I find it helpful to bring my attention to the things around me and to become aware of my senses. Appreciating a simple bunch of colourful flowers, a mindful cup of tea or the nature around me in a walk brings me into the moment and in doing so prepares me for the next!

The present moment is the only moment available to us, it is the doorway to all moments
— Tich Nhat Hahn

For me that is what life is, a series of moments to be cherished.
