Here come the girls!!

Here come the grils! As a woman and a mother of four girls I am glad of the opportunity to celebrate International Women’s Day! It is a day to acknowledge and support the valuable role of women in our lives. Being mentors to one another and being role models to young girls is so important. We get to nurture and sew seeds of confidence and self-belief. Building a sense of self worth from a young age creates resilience and tenacity. We can show other women that we are capable of growing into strong, independent and powerful people in whichever arena we choose. I think it is important everyone regardless of gender feels empowered to be who they are and have confidence in themselves.

How we think about ourselves is so important. I find myself asking what thought patterns do I have that support me and empower me? Do I build myself up or focus on my flaws? How am I contributing in helping others feel more empowered and included? RCSI held a very informative webinar marking International Women’s day. What I took most from it was that…. our behaviour repeated over time becomes a habit. Habits then can become norms and in turn norms can become culture. Our daily habits and gestures are key in creating a culture of inclusivity. My aim, with the help of Jigsee, is to try and create affirming habits for the girls in my life so they can then contribute to a more inclusive and empowering culture for women across the globe!
