Happy World Kindness Day!
I like kindness. I like the role it plays in our lives and in our world. I feel it is a powerful way to connect. A kind word or act no matter how small, can change a person’s day or even their mindset. It can restore faith in the goodness of people.
Kindness has impact and can spread positivity to those around us. Research in positive psychology has shown us how acts of kindness can have a positive impact on our wellbeing and can be measured in terms of our health. It feels good to be kind and to receive kindness. So kindness in my world is not completely altruistic!
How can I tap into kindness in a world that can be unkind?
It seems kindness starts with ourselves! Understanding eachother, resilience and the ability to cope with life comes from showing kindness to ourselves. Self compassion is important. We can be our toughest critic and we need to give ourselves a break! Knowing we are not perfect, that nobody is and being okay with that enables us to spread kindness, empathy and help people in all sorts of ways. So I am going to try my best to do what Pope Francis has asked us to do which is….
““Fast from hurting words and say kind words instead”.”
