Joy in a jigsaw…
The humble jigsaw has brought joy to so many people throughout the ages and continues to do so! We are now in a world where technology and screen time is more prevalent than ever. However, I have been pleasantly surprised to see how children, teenagers and adults still find joy in putting a puzzle or jigsaw together! It is an opportunity to:
Relax
Be tactile
No screens!
Interactive & fun!
Digging a little deeper, the Jigsee message is about……..
Nurturing self-esteem
Enriching relationships and enabling conversations with those we love!
One of the main reasons for my idea and vision behind Jigsee was to bring, in some way, a little bit of joy and happiness into the world. I wanted that for my daughter. Since then, feedback from parents such as “the message started a nice conversation with my child” or “the tips on the bookmark were good and inspired me also” have given me joy and encouragement.
When reflecting on the word joy, I think of more than just happiness and yet when I try to define exactly what joy means, I am stuck! I know joy when I see it. I know joy when I experience it. However, I find it difficult to put into words. Joy seems both obvious and ethereal. The Oxford dictionary defines Joy as a “feeling of great pleasure and happiness”.
So, is joy the same as happiness? This question can be hard to answer! When I asked people about their thoughts on joy, they named the many ways in which they felt joy. Examples included seemingly simple pleasures! A cup of tea, the way a certain pen feels in the hand when writing, flowers, music, seeing someone we love and also the joy of doing and completing a puzzle or jigsaw!
My vision for Jigsee is to connect. To take time out, for fun and meaningful connection with ourselves, with the people we love and the world around us in a positive and joyful way. Pursuing this vision brings me lasting joy and I am so grateful for it all!
“Joy is the reward of seeking to give joy to others”
