Be you!
The various roles we take on in life such as parent, teacher, partner or sibling do not solely reflect who we truly are. Asking yourself who you are without your role can be terrifying! It leaves us with the questions such as Who am I? What am I? Yes, our roles can help us define our place in society but we are more than those. The voyage of discovery of who we are begins the minute we come into the world and it seems at first, that there is no clear road map. (Every parent in the world would love one of those!) How do we become ourselves? How do we know what to do? How do we know how to do it?
The real challenge in life is discovering what all that is and connecting with it. Staying connected to ourselves amidst our changing roles and discovering who we truly are can challenge us and yet also empower us. In order to be fully alive we need to connect with all that is in us. Giving space and time to connect is important. Connecting with ourselves helps build our resilience when life throws up difficult situations. I know what it feels like to feel uncomfortable, unhappy and uneasy about certain situations. That is when I am called to draw on my inner strength to find a way through.
I have begun to notice that the more disconnected from myself I am, the more discontent I become. I have learned with practice that accepting myself, both my gifts and talents, faults and failings for who I truly am offers me a way. I believe that being happy with myself can be life changing.
Staying true to you in the world in which we live requires courage! Life teaches us that when we resist being true to ourselves, life can be full of worry. Are we fighting the natural flow of life? Why are we afraid to be ourselves? Maybe it’s fear, maybe it is judgement from others.? Do we care too much about what others think at the risk of sacrificing what we know to be true in our hearts? Yes staying true to you can be a magical mess and not perfect. A journey of learning and discovery is never straightforward but it is real and authentic.
I believe our calling in life is to be ourselves and with that, to show the world who we are. If we try to be like everyone else, we may be in danger of losing ourselves. I really believe we are born original. There is no one like us in the history of the world nor will there ever be again. If we think about that it is truly remarkable!
We are not perfect yet we are precious. We are unique in that there is no copyright, no business plan, no definitive life plan that can can show us the fullest way to be ourselves. That discovery is our job and we are the best qualified to do it!
